Healthcare Cleaning Operations Specialist

Job Introduction

Healthcare Cleaning Operations Specialist

Location: Hybrid Role (London preferred) | Regular travel across the UK
Sector: Healthcare

Competitve Salary + Car and Benifits

Are you a healthcare cleaning expert who doesn't mind getting stuck in?

Medirest are looking for someone who knows healthcare cleaning inside and out. Someone who can help shape our approach to winning and mobilising new business, improve standards across our existing contracts, and bring fresh ideas to the way we work.

But this isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind a laptop all day.

Yes, you'll be involved in strategy, pricing support, bids, mobilisation plans, process improvement and innovation. But you'll also be out on sites, working alongside operational teams, reviewing cleaning standards, supporting mobilisations, solving problems and occasionally rolling your sleeves up to help teams deliver when needed.

This is a genuinely hands-on specialist role that combines operational expertise with strategic influence.

While the role is national and hybrid, being based in or around London would be advantageous due to the concentration of healthcare contracts and client engagement opportunities in the region.

 What You'll Be Doing

Supporting New Business & Growth

  • Work alongside our Business Development and Bid teams to help shape winning healthcare cleaning solutions.
  • Support costing and labour modelling for new opportunities, ensuring plans are practical, compliant and deliverable.
  • Contribute to presentations, client meetings and site visits during tender processes.
  • Help design mobilisation plans that set new contracts up for success from day one.
  • Ensure all solutions align with NHS standards, infection prevention requirements and best practice.

Working Alongside Operational Teams

  • Spend time on sites understanding what works well and where improvements can be made.
  • Support teams during new contract mobilisations and significant operational changes.
  • Help solve operational challenges and improve cleaning performance.
  • Coach managers and supervisors to drive consistency and best practice.
  • Be visible, approachable and willing to support frontline teams when required.

Driving Standards & Compliance

  • Act as the go-to healthcare cleaning specialist across the business.
  • Provide guidance on NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness, IPC requirements and healthcare cleaning best practice.
  • Carry out audits, reviews and benchmarking exercises across contracts.
  • Support sites in achieving excellent audit scores and client satisfaction.
  • Translate complex standards into simple, practical ways of working.

Improving Efficiency & Performance

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and consistency.
  • Review staffing structures, schedules and operational processes.
  • Use data and insight to highlight opportunities for improvement.
  • Share best practice across the healthcare portfolio.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Explore new technologies, equipment and cleaning methods.
  • Help introduce digital systems and innovative ways of working.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and responsible chemical usage.
  • Bring fresh ideas that improve outcomes for clients, patients and colleagues.

Building Relationships

  • Develop strong relationships with operational teams, clients and Infection Prevention & Control leads.
  • Support client reviews, presentations and audits.
  • Act as an ambassador for Compass One Healthcare across the healthcare sector.
  • Attend industry events and keep up to date with emerging trends and legislation.

What We're Looking For

We're less interested in job titles and more interested in experience.

You'll probably have:

  • Significant experience in healthcare cleaning, whether within the NHS, private healthcare, FM or specialist cleaning environments.
  • Strong knowledge of NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness and Infection Prevention & Control requirements.
  • Experience supporting bids, mobilisations, workforce planning or operational improvement projects.
  • A practical understanding of cleaning operations and what good looks like on the ground.
  • The confidence to engage with senior stakeholders while also building rapport with frontline teams.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a drive to continually improve standards.
  • The ability to travel regularly across the UK.

Desirable Qualifications

  • BICSc
  • RSPH
  • City & Guilds qualifications relevant to cleaning and hygiene
  • Infection Prevention & Control related qualifications or training

  • Introduce practical innovations that make a real difference.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and operational teams.
  • Create safer, cleaner environments for patients, visitors and colleagues.
