WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Lead Boarding House Chef to take responsibility for the day-to-day catering operation within one of Uppingham School’s boarding houses.
Uppingham is a vibrant co-educational boarding school where the boarding house is at the heart of school life. With pupils and staff eating together as a house community, food plays an important role in creating a welcoming and homely environment.
As Lead Boarding House Chef, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the food offer in your house, preparing fresh, high-quality meals for pupils and staff and creating varied menus that reflect their needs and preferences. You’ll take ownership of your kitchen while working closely with the wider catering team to deliver an excellent dining experience.

Plan and prepare fresh, nutritious and appealing meals for pupils and staff.
Work closely with the Housemaster or Housemistress and wider house team to understand requirements and deliver excellent service.
Create a welcoming and varied food offer, including catering for special events, celebrations and house activities.
Manage ordering, stock control, portion sizes and food costs within agreed budgets.
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, HSE and COSHH.
Manage allergens and dietary requirements carefully and accurately.
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, food presentation and kitchen organisation.
Support and guide kitchen colleagues, encouraging a positive and collaborative working environment.
Listen to feedback and contribute ideas to improve menus and the boarding house dining experience.
WHO YOU ARE
An experienced Lead Boarding House Chef with a genuine passion for fresh, high-quality food.
Confident working independently and taking ownership of a kitchen operation.
Creative and enthusiastic, with the ability to develop menus that appeal to young people.
Organised, reliable and able to manage your time effectively in a busy environment.
A strong communicator who builds positive relationships with pupils, staff and colleagues.
Knowledgeable about food safety, allergen management and safe working practices.
Comfortable managing stock, ordering and food costs.
A supportive team player with a calm, professional approach.
Passionate about creating food that makes a positive contribution to boarding house life.
WHY JOIN US?
This is an opportunity to play an important role in the life of an outstanding independent boarding school, where food is central to the house community. You’ll have the support of Lodestone House and Compass Group, alongside opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career.
