Job Introduction

To provide a proficient Portering Service to all wards and departments at the Hospital.

Undertaking a comprehensive range of General and Departmental Portering duties to the required service delivery standards.

 

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

To provide a proficient Portering Service to all wards and departments at the Hospital and other commercial organisations and NHS Trusts.

  • Communication and dealing with patients, visitors and members of staff in a manner which reflects the high standard of care and commitment.
  • Transport of patients and goods using various modes of transportation within agreed response times and standards.
  • Record all information as required, in the required format to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Receive, record and prioritise job requests in line with agreed procedures.
  • Inform the Portering and Transport Manager or Portering Supervisors of any repairs or maintenance required.
  • Deliver linen using electronic vehicles
  • As part of a team, to provide a comprehensive Portering Service to patients, staff and visitors.
  • To follow Company, Departmental and Trust policies and procedures.
  • To demonstrate and explain duties and working practices to new starters.
  • To complete work records in the required format to ensure adherence to standards.
  • To use equipment following operational guidelines

Who you are:

We are looking for flexible individuals who will be happy to work on a rota basis, which will include evenings, nights and weekends. Training will be provided in order to fulfil the job role effectively. You must have a can do attitude and have excellent customer service skills as some of the role will be customer facing. Due to the nature of working in a hospital environment, excellent communication skills are essential.

  • The ability to communicate and work with patients, other members of staff and visitors to the Hospital.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Understanding of a range of routine work procedures.
  • Ability to organise own day-to-day work.
  • Understanding of relevant Manual Handling procedures and protocols.
  • Understanding of basic Infection Control.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work.
  • Ability to use a variety of transportation equipment.

We have full time and part time shifts available.

What we'll give:

We are currently recruiting for a Porter to work within Whiston Hospital, L35 5DR.

The contract offer a minimum 20 hours per week, we require all applicants to be fully flexible to commit to shifts including 7am - 3pm, 3pm - 11pm & 11pm - 7am available for any day of the week, including weekends and Bank Holidays. Rotas will be allocated on a weekly basis. The hospital operates on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week.

All applicants must have a full clean driving licence.
