We are looking for a hands-on and collaborative Data Engineering leader with a strong technical background and significant management experience to lead our data engineering function as we provide data services that enable our use of data as a strategic asset for the business.
In this role, you will lead a diverse and talented team of data engineers to build data pipelines, products and services that support the various businesses across the Compass Group UK. You will bring with you a history of building, scaling and inspiring high performing teams that implement industry standards and best practices delivering data products that realise quantifiable value to the organization.
As the Data Engineering Lead, you will work with the wider Data Leadership Team to set the and implement data strategy along with defining and managing the technical engineering backlog using Agile Scrum processes.
We are an Informatica focused team, using a tech stack of primarily Informatica and Redshift, with other AWS services as needed. This role will also involve completing the scoping & discovery of the requirements of the business, identifying dependencies, and communicating those to all parties.

- Represent the engineering function team within the wider data community to showcase the value of the work being delivered.
- Own and support the team in the development of the vision for the Data Engineering Team in line with the vision for wider data strategy across business.
- Give quality feedback on designs written by team members, asking probing, insightful questions that solidify choices and surface erroneous assumptions and set the direction for technical development.
- Work with the wider team to prioritize data products deliver that meaningful, measurable impact and clarity on ROI.
- Own and managed the technical risk register to ensuring the effective management of risks to data products and services.
- Work closely with product managers sharing information to help keep relevant stakeholders informed and aligned as products released.
- Involve team in the discussion of “what to build” and not just the “how to build”, creating a sense of ownership for the end results
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in ETL or Data Engineering role, building and implementing data pipelines
- 3 – 5 years experience leading a technical team
- AWS Data Engineering Certification, AWS Solution Architect Associate Certification, or similar
- Experience building data structures and data warehouses, designing pipelines with event driven architecture, working in AWS, working with Informatica, Agile software development, writing efficient SQL queries, DevOps and CI/CD technologies and methodologies
- Previous experience working in a highly collaborative environment
- Highly self-motivated and directed with an attention to detail
- Experience managing tickets in Azure DevOps or similar
- Strong communication skills with the business & technical team
